Start price: £3

Estimated price: £5

Buyer's Premium:

A late Victorian platform rocking chair, circa 1890-1910, featuring design elements associated with the Eastlake style. The frame is constructed from a dark-stained hardwood and features a high back with a central rectangular upholstered panel flanked by turned spindles. The curved armrests are supported by further turned spindles and include small upholstered pads. The chair is upholstered in a light-coloured patterned damask fabric, finished with decorative brass-headed studs over a green fabric trim. The seat is mounted on a stationary platform base with an integrated spring-loaded rocking mechanism. No maker marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the wooden frame. A handwritten paper sign and an auction lot tag from Liskeard Auction Rooms are attached to the reverse.

Condition report:

The item is in poor to fair condition and is sold as requiring restoration. There is significant wear and loss to the wood finish, particularly on the arms and the front of the seat rail. The upholstery shows signs of age, light soiling, and wear to the edges. The internal spring mechanism has not been tested for tension or functionality.
