Lot 814: A Set of Mid-Century Bird's Eye Maple Bedroom Furniture
A mid-century bedroom suite, circa 1950s, in the style of Durable Suites Ltd. The set is faced in a light-toned bird’s eye maple veneer and is characterised by the arched and curved fronts typical of the period. The collection includes wardrobes featuring distinctive scrolled metal pull handles and a dressing table designed with a central well flanked by raised side drawers. The dressing table is surmounted by a large, scalloped-top frameless mirror. Also included is a pedestal cupboard; both the cupboard and the dressing table are fitted with circular filigree-style metal knobs. The pieces are constructed with bird’s eye maple veneers over a secondary timber carcase. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The suite appears in good structural condition with the finish remaining bright throughout. There is minor age-related wear and light scuffing consistent with use, particularly visible to the bases and corners. The mirror glass remains intact and the veneer is well-preserved.
