Lot 852: A 20th-century hardwood footstool with a woven cord seat
A 20th-century vernacular footstool of rectangular form, constructed from hardwood with a honey-coloured finish. The seat is inset with a basketweave pattern of light-brown twisted fibre cord, in the style of Danish cord. The stool features four turned legs with square block tops and chamfered edges, connected by simple rectangular stretchers using mortise and tenon joinery. The item carries a handwritten tag describing it as a cane seated stool and a lot tag for Stroud Auction Rooms, Lot 852. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible on the frame.
Condition report:
Generally good and sturdy condition. There is minor surface wear and small scuffs to the finish on the high points of the wooden legs and corners, consistent with age and typical use.
