Lot 900: A Chinese Style Hardwood Side Chair and a Contemporary Upholstered Side Chair
A lot comprising two chairs. The first is a Chinese side chair in the Southern Official’s Hat or Nanguanmao style, constructed from a reddish-brown hardwood with a prominent decorative grain, often referred to as Hongmu or rosewood. The chair features a continuous rounded top rail and a curved back splat carved with a circular relief Shou longevity symbol. The seat consists of a recessed floating panel within a mitred frame, supported by legs joined by a front footrest and peripheral stretchers. This design is consistent with the Chin Hua collection attributed to Century Furniture. The second item is a contemporary side chair upholstered in a cream and grey patterned damask-style fabric.
Condition report:
The hardwood chair appears in good structural condition with minor surface wear and light scuffing to the lower legs consistent with age and use. Auction labels are adhered to the splat and leg. The upholstered chair is in good used condition.
