Lot 934: A Late Victorian Jacobean Revival Oak and Red Velvet Armchair
A low-seated armchair in the Jacobean Revival style, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. Each chair features curved oak armrests supported by bobbin-turned spindles and square-section uprights. The frames are fully upholstered in a deep red plush fabric, with a row of brass-headed upholstery studs along the top rail of the backrest. The chairs are designed with a low seat height, characteristic of nursing or bedroom chairs. One armrest bears a small white inventory sticker printed with the number 934. No maker’s marks are visible.
Condition report:
The upholstery is in poor condition, showing significant soiling, wear, and loose threads throughout. The exposed oak elements exhibit surface scuffs, scratches, and darkening consistent with age and use. The chairs appear structurally sound but require professional cleaning or reupholstery.
