Lot 140: A Trio of Victorian Cast Metal Style Butterfly Pattern Garden Planters
This trio of garden planters is decorated in the Butterfly pattern, a design frequently associated with contemporary Victorian-style cast iron garden ware. The set comprises one rectangular trough and two square-form planters, all featuring a weathered verdigris style finish. The items are constructed from plastic with pierced openwork decoration. The central motif on each panel depicts a stylised butterfly within a circular frame, surrounded by foliate scrolls. The upper rims are finished with a continuous border of pointed, leaf-shaped crests, and the planters are raised on integral bracket feet. A white auction lot sticker bearing the printed number 140 is present on the side of the trough. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces.
