Lot 197: An antique metal-lined wooden storage chest or ice box
A utilitarian wooden storage chest or ice box dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The exterior is constructed from a stained softwood, likely pine, featuring a hinged lid and a simple latch mechanism. The interior is fully lined with fitted sheet metal, likely zinc or galvanised steel, designed to provide insulation or protection from moisture. The hardware, comprising the hinges and latch, is made of iron or steel. No original manufacturer marks are present; however, the exterior lid bears a contemporary adhesive auction label for Liskeard Auction Rooms (Lot 197) and a fragment of a paper label with handwritten numerals 3, 4, 4, 2. The exterior retains remnants of old green paint.
