Lot 204: Two Vintage Novelty Cast Iron Boot Jacks
A pair of vintage novelty boot jacks manufactured from cast iron. The first is designed in the form of a beetle, featuring a textured carapace and outspread mandibles which function as the grip for a boot heel. The second is a figural novelty boot jack depicting a reclining male figure in a jovial or “naughty” pose, with his raised arms and legs forming the V-shaped heel grip. Both items are of heavy cast construction. No foundry marks or maker stamps are visible on either piece; a modern adhesive lot label for Liskeard Auction Rooms is present on the figural jack. These designs are characteristic of British foundry production from the late 19th to early 20th century.
