Lot 233: A Vintage Industrial Iron Oil Can
A vintage industrial or agricultural oil can constructed from rolled and joined sheet iron. The vessel features a cylindrical body with a conical shoulder leading to a narrow neck. It is fitted with a knurled screw cap and a loop handle made from a bent metal strap. No manufacturer marks or stamps are visible on the body or base. The shoulder currently bears two adhesive auction labels, including one from Liskeard Auction Rooms for Lot 233 and a handwritten label numbered 5766. This utilitarian design is characteristic of British fuel and lubricant containers produced from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century.
