Lot 418: A Collection of Vintage Children's Books including Mary Tourtel's Rupert Bear, a Copeland Late Spode Plate, and a Framed Maritime Picture
This lot comprises a collection of mid-20th century British children’s literature, a decorative ceramic plate, and a framed maritime artwork. The collection of books features several small-format volumes with illustrated boards. Notable titles include Rupert and Willy Wispe by Mary Tourtel, published as number 13 in the Rupert Little Bear Library series. Ladybird series titles are present, including Ginger’s Adventures, First picture book for baby, Counting, and A Second Book of British Birds and their nests. The ceramic plate is a Copeland Late Spode piece, decorated with a polychrome floral pattern in shades of red, purple, and yellow against a grey stippled ground. The reverse features the printed mark COPELAND Late SPODE within a rectangular frame, along with hand-painted numerals 449 in orange and an indistinct impressed mark. Also included is a framed artwork depicting a three-masted sailing ship at sea, presented in a gilt-finished frame with a textured inner border and ornate moulding. A cardboard postal tube is included, bearing handwritten labels with the text PTRA O, ERRA RUN, and 1633. The entire collection is housed in a clear plastic bin.
