Lot 888: Jacobean Revival Carved Oak Sideboard
An early 20th-century Jacobean Revival oak sideboard, also referred to as a court cupboard or buffet. The construction is of oak with a dark-stained finish, displaying quarter-sawn oak graining on several panels. The piece is built in two distinct sections. The upper portion features a central canted cupboard situated beneath a projecting cornice with a carved lunette frieze, supported by two large bulbous cup and cover turned columns. The lower portion provides a wide flat work surface over two frieze drawers and a two-door cupboard base. The cupboard doors are decorated with recessed panels, with the central doors featuring a carved diamond and floral motif within a circular border. The drawers are detailed with vertical channel moulding. The sideboard is fitted with decorative metal H-style strap hinges and circular drop handles.
