Lot 481: A Collection of Vintage Decorative Metalware and Trench Art
A collection of decorative metalware items, primarily fashioned from brass and various copper alloys. The assortment includes a trench art ashtray repurposed from the base of a British 25-pounder artillery shell casing. The casing is stamped with military markings including 25 Pr, IGI, 1940, a circled C, and Lot 289 ARL; the central primer is stamped with a broad arrow pheon, NA, and 6/40. The lot also contains a pair of brass goblets with engraved floral designs on the bowls and two miniature brass jugs of varying forms, one featuring matching engraved decoration. Included are two cast metal items: a stylized dragon or chimera figure and a flat-backed plaque of a Welsh Lady in traditional dress. A rectangular metal matchbox sleeve or box displays a raised foliate scrollwork pattern. The group is completed by a small silvered metal barrel-form container and a dark-patinated turned metal bell pull or handle.
