Lot 939: Two Walking Canes including a Silver Mounted Partridge Wood Example
This lot comprises two walking canes of different periods and styles. The first is a vintage crook-handled cane featuring embossed silver mounts. The terminal of the handle is fitted with a silver cap decorated with a sunburst motif on one side and a crescent moon with stars on the reverse. A silver collar is positioned at the junction of the handle and shaft. The shaft is crafted from polished partridge wood, displaying a characteristic deeply-ribbed and segmented texture. It is finished with a modern black rubber ferrule. The second cane is a modern adjustable model with a black plastic Derby handle and an integrated black nylon wrist strap. The shaft is constructed from black-finished metal with a telescopic adjustment mechanism and a locking ring, terminating in a large black rubber ferrule.
