Lot 513: A Trio of Mid-20th Century Decorative Household Items Including a Splendex Mantel Clock, a Wall Barometer, and a Novelty Boat Lamp
This lot comprises three mid-century decorative items. The first is a Splendex electronic mantel clock featuring a rectangular wooden case with a dark veneer and bands of decorative Greek key pattern motifs. The circular, brushed brass-toned face has black Roman numerals and is marked SPLENDEX, 2 electronic 2, and MADE IN G.D.R. to the lower edge. The reverse contains a battery-operated quartz movement marked MADE IN W.GERMANY. The second item is an aneroid wall-mounted barometer set within a circular brass bezel. It is housed in an ornate scrollwork metal frame embellished with five gilded foliate leaf motifs. The dial features Gothic-style lettering for weather conditions and is marked with a winged SB logo, BRIT PAT No 1184005, and MADE IN ENGLAND. The third item is a novelty table lamp carved in the form of a boat hull from wood with a dark mahogany-style finish. It includes white metal eyelets representing portholes and a central black plastic bayonet-style bulb socket. It is fitted with a modern UK three-pin plug.
