Lot 987: A Mid-Century Modern Mahogany Eight-Drawer Collector's Chest
A mid-20th-century mahogany collector’s chest or specimen cabinet of utilitarian design. The rectangular carcass is constructed with exposed finger joints at the top corners and houses eight shallow, graduated drawers. Each drawer is fitted with a single turned wooden knob. The interior of one drawer features thin longitudinal dividers intended for the organisation of small, narrow items. The primary timber is mahogany with a warm reddish-brown finish, while secondary components include light-coloured wood for the drawer sides and plywood for the drawer bottoms. The exterior features an adhesive label from Liskeard Auction Rooms for Lot 987 and a handwritten label numbered 9475.
