Lot 551: Late Victorian cast brass letter plate with ornate foliate border
A late 19th or early 20th-century architectural cast brass letter plate, also known as a letter box flap. The rectangular frame is decorated with a high-relief foliate and scrollwork border characteristic of the Victorian or Edwardian periods. The central hinged flap features a stippled texture and a raised horizontal bar for ease of opening. The reverse side is fitted with two iron mounting bolts. The metal has an overall dark patinated finish. No maker marks or other identifying inscriptions are visible on the piece.
