Lot 729: An early 20th century Oriental style carved hardwood standard lamp
This floor lamp features a slender cylindrical column of dark-stained hardwood, decorated with extensive hand-carved relief. The decorative scheme incorporates traditional East Asian motifs including a tiered pagoda, stylised pine or cherry blossom trees, and scrolling foliage. The column is set into a heavy circular stepped base with a moulded edge, which is further detailed with four incised floral cartouches containing plum blossom designs. The top of the column is fitted with a vintage brass bayonet B22 light socket with a threaded collar for a lampshade. This item is characteristic of the Chinoiserie export furniture produced for the British market in the early 20th century.
