Lot 835: An English Country Spindle-Back Kitchen Side Chair
A single spindle-back kitchen side chair in the 19th-century English vernacular style. The chair features a wide, curved comb top rail supported by seven turned spindles socketed into a thick, shaped solid wood seat. It stands on four turned legs joined by a simple H-stretcher. The piece is constructed from mixed woods typical of the period, likely featuring a solid elm or pine seat with turned beech or ash components. Two contemporary adhesive labels are present on the rear of the top rail, one from Liskeard Auction Rooms indicating lot 835 and another handwritten label marked Item 162 and 10 pounds. There are no visible original manufacturer marks or stamps.
