Lot 850: A 1930s Art Deco Oak Cased Smiths Westminster Chiming Grandmother Clock
An early to mid-20th-century grandmother clock in the Art Deco style, attributed to Smiths. The case is constructed from oak with a dark-stained finish, featuring a rectangular trunk with a recessed panel, a stepped hood with an arched top, and a box base on a shaped plinth. The dial comprises a silvered chapter ring with black Arabic numerals set against an oak centre matching the case. It is marked MADE IN ENGLAND at the 6 o’clock position and includes a chime/silent lever at the base of the chapter ring. The mechanical three-train movement features engine-turned brass plates and a set of chime rods for Westminster chimes. A winding key is present inside the case. The back of the hood features a hinged wooden panel for movement access.
