Lot 209: An Arts and Crafts style hammered panelled wooden magazine rack
An Arts and Crafts style wooden magazine rack or book trough, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The piece is constructed with a simple rectangular wooden frame featuring a central divider. The two principal faces are clad in applied metal panels decorated with repousse figurative scenes. The scenes depict domestic or tavern interior settings with figures arranged around tables, a common motif in vernacular metalwork of the period. The panels are secured to the wooden body with small metal pins. A decorative cast metal handle is mounted to the top of the central wooden partition. There are no visible maker’s marks or signatures. A modern paper lot label from Liskeard Auction Rooms (Lot 209) is adhered to one end.
