Lot 370: A Hand-Knotted Pakistani Bokhara Wool Rug
This is a hand-knotted wool rug in the Bokhara style, traditionally produced in Pakistan. The design features a repeating geometric composition on a deep rose-red ground, decorated with three rows of octagonal gul motifs, often referred to as elephant’s foot patterns. These motifs are executed in a palette of black, ivory, and olive green. The central field is enclosed by multiple narrow geometric borders, including a prominent wide border with a repeating diamond-lattice pattern and smaller serrated guard bands. The rug is constructed with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, terminating in short cream-coloured fringes at both ends. The reverse shows a fine, consistent weave characteristic of 20th-century Pakistani export production. A white adhesive lot tag from Liskeard Auction Rooms, marked Lot 370, is attached to the pile.
Width: 120 cm (47 inches).
