Lot 513: A Late 19th or Early 20th Century White Metal Magnifying Glass
This hand-held magnifying glass is designed in the Victorian or Edwardian style, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The instrument features a large circular glass lens held within a plain white metal frame. The focal point of the piece is the decorative handle, which consists of a spiral-fluted stem transitioning into a substantial, heavily embossed and chased terminal pommel. The pommel is ornamented with a combination of foliate scrolls, stylised leaf motifs, and geometric borders. The construction and style are characteristic of desk accessories produced for high-end stationery sets of the era. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are visible on the metalwork or around the rim of the lens.
