Lot 524: An Antique Art Deco Carlton Ware Sandwich Set and a Collection of Maling Lustre Ware
This lot features two distinct groups of English Art Deco period ceramics with iridescent lustre glazes. The first group is an antique Carlton Ware sandwich set, consisting of one rectangular serving tray with rounded corners and matching octagonal side plates. The pieces are decorated with a pearlescent glaze and a dark-toned transfer-printed border of scrolling foliate designs, featuring hand-painted fruit motifs in the corners. The second group comprises four pieces of Maling lustre ware, including a large ovoid vase with a ribbed basketweave texture, an oval serving dish, and two circular candlesticks. These pieces are decorated with relief-moulded pink blossoms and green foliage, likely the Peony Rose pattern, set against a cream-coloured ground. The base of the vase is marked with the black printed Maling factory stamp for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, featuring the castle logo and Established 1762 text, alongside an impressed model number 100.
