Lot 539: A Harcourt China Trinket Box and a Pair of Magpie Espresso Cups and Saucers
This lot comprises a circular lidded porcelain trinket box by Harcourt China and a pair of contemporary porcelain espresso cups with matching saucers from the Magpie brand. The trinket box features a lid hand-decorated with a cluster of blue forget-me-not flowers on a white ground, finished with a solid blue rim and a gilt line. The base is finished in a solid cobalt blue glaze with a gilt line at the foot. The interior of the base is further decorated with a small floral sprig and a ladybird motif. The underside bears a blue printed mark reading Harcourt China, Malvern, England, surmounted by a crown. The espresso set includes two cups and two saucers featuring detailed entomological transfer prints. The cups are decorated with bee motifs, while the saucers show a collage of various insects including bees and wasps. Each cup base is marked with the Magpie logo and text indicating the items were designed in Britain and made in China.
