Buyer's Premium:

A German-movement interwar period oak longcase clock of one-piece construction, circa 1920s-1930s. The case is constructed from oak, featuring quartersawn (tiger oak) graining to the trunk and base panels. The arched hood is decorated with carved scrollwork along the top edges and a central diamond-shaped applied moulding positioned below the dial. The circular cream-coloured dial presents black Arabic numerals and ornate filigree hands. Three winding holes are present on the dial face, indicating a triple-train movement for time, hour striking, and quarterly chiming. A “SILENT / CHIME” selector lever is located at the top of the dial. The dial is marked “FOREIGN” at the base, characteristic of clock movements imported into the United Kingdom from Germany during this period. The trunk door is fitted with a long, oval glazed aperture revealing a circular brass-toned pendulum bob. The movement is housed behind a side-access panel featuring a perforated metal grill designed for sound resonance. The case retains its original metal hinges and latch hardware. The item bears an auction lot label from Liskeard Auction Rooms, UK, for Lot 684.
