Lot 909: An Afghan Turkmen Style Hand-Knotted Wool Rug with Elephant Foot Guls
An Afghan Turkmen style hand-knotted wool rug of rectangular form. The rug features a deep madder red ground with a central field decorated with a series of large, dark-toned octagonal motifs known as elephant foot guls. These guls are interspersed with smaller geometric patterns and are surrounded by multiple decorative borders of varying designs. The rug is finished with fringed ends. Two labels are adhered to the reverse: one white sticker with the handwritten characters S5766 in green ink, and a smaller printed auction-style tag bearing the number 909.
