Lot 475: Folk Art Carved Wood Hare Head Walking Staff
A hand-crafted wooden walking staff or thumbstick featuring a handle carved in the form of a hare’s head. The head is mounted horizontally across the top of the shaft, with elongated ears extending backwards to form a natural rest. The carving is finished with polychrome paint in shades of brown, tan, and black, featuring an inset red glass or plastic eye and painted whisker details. A smooth white collar is situated between the head and the shaft. The upper portion of the wooden shaft is wrapped in black cord to form a textured grip. A metal eyelet is fixed to the shaft below the grip, carrying a black cord wrist strap. The tapered wooden shaft is finished with a black rubber ferrule. An adhesive auction label from Liskeard Auction Rooms is present on the grip.
