Lot 562: A Collection of Five Items Comprising 19th-Century Relief-Moulded Pottery Jugs and Contemporary Glassware
A mixed lot consisting of two decorative pottery jugs and three pieces of glassware. The two ceramic jugs are constructed from glazed earthenware or ironstone, featuring flared spouts and ornate scrolled handles. The bodies are decorated with relief-moulded sprigged scenes depicting white figures in classical or pastoral settings against a white ground. The vessels are further detailed with a deep cobalt blue glaze applied to the rims, handles, and lower borders, accented with copper or gold lustre highlights on the raised scrollwork. The form and decoration are characteristic of mid-19th-century British regional pottery, such as that produced in Staffordshire. No maker’s marks or backstamps are visible. The glassware comprises three tall, clear cylindrical highball glasses or tumblers. Each glass features a plain upper body with moulded vertical fluting to the lower third of the vessel.
