Lot 649: Vintage 1970s Bentwood Rocking Chair with Patchwork Leather Upholstery
A vintage bentwood rocking chair, dating from the late 20th century, designed in the classic Thonet style. The frame is constructed from steam-bent wood, likely beech, with a dark mahogany-toned stain and finish. The design features elaborate scrolled side supports that integrate the armrests and rockers in a continuous curved form. The chair is fitted with a padded backrest and seat, upholstered in a brown leather or high-quality leatherette featuring a distinctive patchwork or “crazy-quilt” pattern. This upholstery is characterised by irregular panels joined with decorative cream-coloured zigzag stitching, a style often associated with 1970s revivals of bentwood furniture, such as those attributed to Luigi Crassevig. The frame is held together with visible screws and bolts. The underside of the frame has a small white sticker with the handwritten digits 2825. It also carries a contemporary auction label from Liskeard Auction Rooms identifying it as Lot 649.
