Lot 749: A Pair of Mid-Century Modern Spindle-Back Side Chairs in the Style of Ercol
A pair of wooden side or dining chairs designed in the mid-century modern aesthetic. The chairs feature a construction style characteristic of Ercol furniture, specifically resembling the Model 391 All-Purpose chair. Each chair is built with a steam-bent wood hoop-back containing six vertical spindles. The frames and spindles appear to be constructed from beech, while the solid, saddled seats show grain patterns typical of elm. The chairs stand on four splayed, tapered legs which are joined to the underside of the seat with visible tenons. No manufacturer stamps, labels, or permanent maker marks are visible on either piece. Temporary identification stickers are present on the top rails, including a lot number 749 and a price label.
