Lot 185: A Glazed Ceramic Strawberry Planter in Burgundy
A ceramic strawberry planter of traditional baluster form, featuring a wide rounded body tapering towards a circular base. The vessel is topped with a flared and thickened rim. The body is pierced with multiple circular apertures for planting, arranged around the midsection. The piece is finished in a high-gloss burgundy red glaze, exhibiting characteristic drip marks or runs towards the lower half, typical of fluid lead-type glazes used in garden pottery. It is constructed from a heavy earthenware or stoneware body. A modern adhesive retailer’s label is affixed to the upper body, identifying the item as a burgundy/red glazed strawberry planter with a price of 25.15 and a stock number. No manufacturer marks or factory stamps are visible on the exterior.
