Lot 377: Two Large Ceramic Utility Vessels comprising a Spongeware Planter and a Marbled Bowl
A lot comprising two utilitarian stoneware vessels. The first is a large tapered bowl or jardinière with a wide rolled rim. The exterior is finished in a cream-coloured glaze featuring vertical green marbled or combed decoration. The interior possesses an ochre or yellow-toned glaze. The vessel is constructed with a solid base. The second is a tapered spongeware planter with a flat rim. The exterior is decorated with a cobalt blue sponge pattern against a cream ground. The interior appears lightly washed. The base is pierced with three circular drainage holes. Both items are unmarked. Each bears a paper auction label with the handwritten number 477.
