Lot 427: Devon & Cornwall Police Queen Elizabeth II Era Ceremonial Mess Dress Uniform
A British Police ceremonial mess dress uniform for the Devon & Cornwall Police, comprising a jacket and matching trousers. The jacket is tailored from dark navy blue wool with contrasting light blue cloth facings on the lapels and pointed cuffs. It features a double-breasted front with eight silver-toned domed buttons, including two on each cuff, bearing a crown over a central device. The lapels are adorned with a pair of embroidered bullion-thread badges depicting the coat of arms of Devon, featuring a red lion rampant on a shield of six blue and silver horizontal bars, topped by a mural crown. Affixed to the left lapel is a miniature Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, with the obverse showing the profile of Queen Elizabeth II and the inscription ELIZABETH II DEI GRA: REGINA F.D. The medal ribbon is blue with two white stripes. The dark navy blue wool trousers contain an internal issue label transcribed as DEVON & CORNWALL POLICE, TROUSERS, ORD HOB/3505, CLOTH M 5, SIZE 25/75, and Grantham, with the number 3647 handwritten in ink. Included is a small embroidered St. Edward’s Crown badge.
