Lot 485: An Assortment of English Bone China Tea Wares including E. Brain and Co Foley China
A collection of assorted fine bone china tea wares primarily of English manufacture. A prominent component of the lot is a lobed and fluted teapot by E. Brain and Co of the Foley China Works, Fenton, Staffordshire. This piece is decorated with delicate floral sprays and gilded rims. The underside features a green printed mark for The Foley China with a crown above an EB and Co monogram and the word England. It also includes the registration number Rd 272101, dating the design to circa 1896, and a hand-painted pattern number 9226 in red.
The collection further includes a second teapot of globular form with a vibrant multi-coloured floral pattern and heavy gilding, alongside several cups and saucers in matching or complementary floral designs, some resembling patterns by Royal Albert. The lot is completed by two cream jugs and a sugar bowl. Decoration across the pieces consists of transfer-printed motifs, some with hand-painted highlights and gilded accents.
