Lot 583: A Collection of Thirteen Robertson's Golly Jazz Band Figures
A collection of Thirteen hand-painted plaster figurines representing a jazz band, originally issued as promotional items for James Robertson and Sons. The group features figures playing instruments including the accordion, guitar, saxophone, and drums, alongside vocalists. Each character is depicted wearing a blue jacket, red trousers, and a yellow or white shirt. The figures are mounted on integral bases which feature the embossed name ROBERTSON along the front edge. Variations in the base markings are present, with some showing the name on a gold-coloured plaque and others in a recessed black strip. These items were widely collected as part of a mid-20th-century marketing campaign for Robertson’s preserves.
