Lot 807: A Bentwood Rocking Chair in the Style of Michael Thonet with Patchwork Leather Upholstery
This rocking chair is constructed from steam-bent beechwood in a style associated with the designs of Michael Thonet. The frame is finished with a dark mahogany-coloured stain. The chair features the characteristic large-scale scrolling curves of bentwood furniture, with integrated armrests that loop downwards to form the rockers and upwards into the back support. Both the seat and the backrest are upholstered in brown leather. This upholstery displays a distinctive patchwork design, with multiple sections of leather joined by prominent, decorative zig-zag whip-stitching in a contrasting thread. The frame components are joined with visible metal screws and bolts, typical of the bentwood manufacturing process. No manufacturer marks, stamps, or labels were identified during inspection.
