Lot 809: An Antique Victorian Spindle-Back Kitchen Side Chair
A single Victorian vernacular side chair in the kitchen or cottage style, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The chair features a broad, curved crest rail over a back comprising five central spindles flanked by decorative turned outer supports. The construction is traditional spindle-back design, with the back components socketed into a contoured, saddle-shaped seat. The seat is crafted from solid wood with a prominent, coarse, and wavy grain pattern characteristic of elm. The spindles, turned supports, and legs appear to be constructed from ash or beech, all finished with a dark mahogany-coloured stain. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible. A white auction lot label is attached to the crest rail.
