Lot 842: Victorian Mechanical Bell Till
A late 19th or early 20th-century mechanical shop till, attributed to British manufacturers such as The British Machine Co Ltd. The rectangular casing is constructed from solid hardwood with a dark stained finish. The top surface features a recessed brass plate with a vertical coin slot. A large, domed brass pull is fitted to the front of the drawer. The internal mechanism includes a brass bell chime designed to sound upon opening, alongside a system of wooden rollers and a star wheel intended to advance a paper roll for transaction recording. The interior of the drawer is partitioned into compartments for currency sorting and contains two pre-decimal British pennies. A keyhole is positioned on the side panel of the casing. The item bears a modern adhesive auction label for Lot 842.
