Lot 853: A Pair of Joined Mid-20th Century Stained Beech and Elm Chapel Chairs
A pair of vintage ecclesiastical or chapel chairs permanently joined together by two horizontal wooden cross-stretchers. Each chair features a solid shaped wood seat, displaying a prominent grain pattern characteristic of elm, set into a simple four-legged frame likely constructed of beech or oak. The chairs are integrated into a single unit using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. The back of each chair includes a built-in wooden rack or shelf designed for holding hymn books or Bibles. There are contemporary auction labels present on the top rails, including a lot sticker from Liskeard Auction Room.
