Lot 666: An Assortment of Porcelain Teacup and Saucer Duos including Wedgwood and Bavarian Examples
An assortment of porcelain teacup and saucer duos of continental and English manufacture. The collection includes a footed cobalt blue teacup featuring a fully gilded interior and handle with a matching scalloped-edge saucer, bearing the printed crown and oval mark for Oscar Schlegelmilch, Bavaria. A second duo attributed to Oscar Schlegelmilch is decorated with broad textured gold bands and hand-painted polychrome floral sprigs. The group features a Johann Haviland white porcelain duo decorated with scattered polychrome floral sprays and a gilded rim, bearing the green printed factory mark and a hand-painted number 36 in red. Also included is a Wedgwood demitasse cup and saucer with a square-profile handle, decorated in a transfer-printed purple grapevine pattern; the base bears a comprehensive retailer’s mark for James Powell and Sons, Whitefriars Glass Works, London. Completing the assortment is a wide, shallow footed teacup and saucer decorated with an emerald green border and gilded floral lace overlay, bearing the Danner and Reichstein triangle mark for Weissenstadt, Bavaria.
