Lot 687: Two Japanese Porcelain Miniature Cups and Saucers including a Morimura Brothers Example
This lot comprises two decorative miniature porcelain cups and saucers. The first is a Morimura Brothers demitasse cup and saucer, finished in a sage green ground with hand-painted gilded decoration. The design features stylized floral chrysanthemum motifs and sweeping linear accents. The cup is of pedestal form with a high-loop gilded handle and a white interior, paired with a matching saucer featuring a molded, scalloped rim. The base of the cup bears a gold backstamp featuring a circular laurel wreath encircling the letter M, with Hand Painted above and Japan below. The second is an iridescent lusterware cup and saucer, featuring an all-over white pearlised finish with thin gilded rims. The cup is of simple rounded form with a ring handle. There are no visible maker marks on the second set. Both items are characteristic of Japanese porcelain exports from the first half of the 20th century.
