Lot 887: A Pair of Mid-20th Century Oak Ladder-back Dining Chairs in the Brutalist Style
A pair of mid-20th century side chairs, constructed from oak with a polished honey-coloured finish. The design features a ladder-back configuration with three horizontal wavy-profiled slats set between shaped uprights. The chairs are supported by shaped front legs and square-section rear legs, united by wavy-profiled side and rear stretchers. The padded seats are upholstered in a cream fabric with a repeating geometric fretwork pattern. No maker’s marks are present; however, the chairs bear auction lot stickers numbered 881 and 1080. The aesthetic is characteristic of the rustic brutalist style popularised in the 1960s.
