Lot 1026: Framed Japanese Oshie-Hagoita Decorative Paddle and Shuttlecock
This decorative framed display features the traditional Japanese oshie technique, depicting a hagoita (paddle) and a shuttlecock. The central composition is mounted upon a vibrant, ribbed red silk background. The hagoita is decorated with a three-dimensional figure of a Kabuki actor, constructed using padded fabric segments in various patterned and plain silks. The actor is depicted in a blue and white kimono with a coordinating headpiece. To the lower left of the paddle is a matching oshie shuttlecock. The entire assembly is housed within a broad, dark-stained wooden frame with mitered corners. A small, square maker’s seal or mark is present on the background fabric below the shuttlecock, although the individual character is not clearly legible.
