Lot 1031: Two Chinese Style Hardwood Display and Storage Cabinets
A lot comprising a large two-piece display cabinet and a separate matching two-door cupboard, both executed in the late 20th-century Chinese export style. The pieces are manufactured from a dense, dark hardwood, characteristic of rosewood or similar tropical timbers. The large display cabinet features an upper section with four tall glazed doors, each divided into three panes. The lower base section consists of a central bank of four graduated drawers flanked by two cupboards. Each cupboard door is decorated with an incised circular Shou character motif, representing longevity. The interior of the lower cupboards contains a single shelf and a top drawer with a recessed brass flush-fit pull. The matching smaller cabinet is of two-door construction with identical Shou motifs and brass hardware. All pieces are fitted with traditional brass rectangular backplates and drop handles.
