Lot 38: A Collection of Robert Sorby and Other Woodturning Tools
An assortment of professional-grade woodturning tools, including several examples attributed to Robert Sorby of Sheffield. The collection comprises a variety of profiles such as bowl and spindle gouges, parting tools, scrapers, and a specialised swan-neck hollowing tool. Also included is a circular metal component, likely a lathe faceplate. The tools are constructed with steel blades fitted into turned hardwood handles, many of which are secured by brass ferrules. Visible markings include a red script signature reading Robert Sorby on one handle and an incised vertical stamp reading SORBY on another. The handles display various stains, wear, and a workshop patina consistent with age and use.
