Lot 170: A 20th-Century Reconstituted Stone Garden Planter in the Form of a Bearded Man
This 20th-century garden planter is cast from reconstituted stone and modelled as the bust of a whimsical bearded man. The figure is depicted wearing a large, floppy hat, with a hollowed-out crown designed for planting. The man’s face is rendered in a folk-art style, featuring a jovial expression with closed eyes and a prominent nose. The surface exhibits a granular, weathered patina and various small abrasions consistent with outdoor use. Several paper labels are present on the surface, including a lot number and a price mark. No artist signatures, foundry marks, or maker’s inscriptions are visible on the piece.
Approx. 40 cm x 35 cm x 35 cm.
