Lot 481: An Assortment of Antique and Vintage Textiles, Sewing Accessories, and Treweek Family Ephemera
This lot comprises a varied collection of antique and vintage textiles, needlework specimens, and sewing implements, accompanied by handwritten genealogical research and correspondence relating to the Treweek family. Key pieces include a framed needlework alphabet sampler on a linen ground, hand-stitched with rows of upper and lower case letters, numerals, and decorative motifs, dated 1841 to the centre. A second sampler is worked in dark thread cross-stitch on a coarse hessian ground. The collection features several framed lace items, including a spray of bobbin lace mounted on black velvet and a commemorative display featuring a lace crown, scrolls, and two turned wooden bobbins, one of which is incised Silver Jubilee 1910-1935. Also included are two lace specimens in plastic presentation cases marked Made in Britain and various loose pieces of handmade crochet and tape lace. Embroidered items include a blue-work cloth depicting a pagoda landscape in the willow pattern style and various white-on-white floral linens. A quilted cream satin accessory, likely a tea cozy or vanity set piece, is present. Sewing accessories consist of a turned wooden carousel thread holder with ten wooden pegs containing various spools, a wooden-handled oval hand mirror, and additional turned wooden stands. Handwritten provenance notes dated 1987 provide family history, referencing members including Francis and Jamson Treweek (born 1775 and 1781) and the names Gliddon and Armatage.
