Lot 667: A Pair of Beswick Beatrix Potter Ceramic Figurines, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and Old Mr Pricklepin
A pair of hand-painted ceramic figurines from the Beatrix Potter series, manufactured by Beswick in England. The first figurine depicts the character Mrs Tiggy-Winkle dressed as a washerwoman, wearing a white mob cap, a red and white checked shawl, and a white apron, and she is shown holding a flat iron. The second figurine features Old Mr Pricklepin, depicted in a seated position on a grassy mound and wearing a blue waistcoat. Both figurines are finished with a high-gloss glaze. The base of the Mrs Tiggy-Winkle figurine is stamped with BEATRIX POTTER’S, Mrs Tiggy Winkle, F. Warne & Co. Ltd., Copyright 1948, and BESWICK ENGLAND. The base of the Old Mr Pricklepin figurine is stamped with BEATRIX POTTER’S, Old Mr Pricklepin, Frederick Warne P.L.C. 1983, and BESWICK ENGLAND. There are handwritten production marks on the base of Old Mr Pricklepin, including the number 69 in black ink and a blue mark.
