Lot 875: An Indian Carved Hardwood and Iron Mounted Armoire in the Gujarat Style
An Anglo-Indian style wooden storage cabinet or armoire, crafted from a dark hardwood such as sheesham or teak. The one-piece cabinet features double doors embellished with three horizontal iron strap bands and decorative carving along the border edges. A central vertical stile is carved with geometric and floral motifs. The doors are mounted on external iron pin hinges and are fitted with two circular iron ring-pull handles and a central vertical locking chain and plate. The interior configuration consists of an upper section with two full-width shelves and a lower section containing six open pigeonhole-style storage compartments. Two small white rectangular labels are present on the upper-left corner of the cornice, bearing the numbers 9488 and 215. No maker or factory marks are identified.
