Buyer's Premium:

A collection of framed artworks of varied subjects and eras. The principal work is a large colour offset lithograph after S. Francis Smitheman, titled ‘The steamship The Great Britain arriving at South Street, New York, on 10th August, 1845 on her maiden voyage’. The bottom margin bears printed inscriptions: ‘Painted by S. Francis Smitheman, A.T.D., B.A., F.R.S.A.’ and a copyright notice for the ‘s.s. Great Britain Project’. The image itself contains a printed signature to the lower left. This work is presented in a dark wood frame with a gilded inner slip and a white mount.

The suite also includes a monochrome portrait print depicting a gentleman in 16th-century dress with an Elizabethan ruff collar, surrounded by an ornate illustrated border, set in a gold-toned frame with a burgundy mount. Two further works are hand-coloured fashion plates: one titled ‘LA MODE ILLUSTRÉE’ depicting two women in Victorian costume within a green mount, and another showing two ladies in Regency-era dress within a cream mount. The collection is completed by a silhouette-style depiction of a military figure in uniform, presented in an oval red mount and gold-toned frame.
